GLOSSARY TERM

Dose Cycling

Dose cycling is a strategic pharmacological protocol involving the periodic adjustment of medication levels, alternating between active dosing phases and 'off' or 'washout' periods. The primary objective of cycling is to maximize the therapeutic impact of a substance while minimizing the development of physiological tolerance, reducing the risk of side effects, and managing the economic cost of long-term treatment.

In the context of metabolic health and weight loss, cycling allows the body's receptors to reset their sensitivity. By utilizing a lower maintenance dose followed by a brief increase and then a cessation period, practitioners aim to maintain the drug's efficacy over a longer duration. This method leverages the drug's half-life to ensure that even during 'off' weeks, a residual therapeutic effect remains present in the system.
